General H. R. McMaster (ret.) is a decorated war hero who served as the 26th National Security Advisor to the President of the United States. A recipient of 3 Army Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, and the Purple Heart, he led his unit of 9 tanks to destroy 80 hostile tanks and other vehicles during Operation Desert Storm. In 2014, General McMaster was named Time 100 for his intellectual impact and military leadership. His 1997 book Dereliction of Duty is considered the seminal work reflecting on failed political and military leadership leading to the Vietnam War.
Bincheng Mao moderates this interview with General McMaster. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Inclusion Advocate and President of the East Coast Coalition for Tolerance and Non-Discrimination (ECC). Under his leadership, ECC has mobilized young volunteers from across the country to serve minorities struggling to access health care and other social services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
